ABOUT CAMERON

CAMERON STEWART

Early Years / Teachers

Cameron started piping at age 6 with his first lessons with his dad, Mark.  He was fortunate to have principal teachers Anne Spalding and Alex Gandy guide him to great success on the solo piping competition scene in both Scotland and Canada.

He's also had tuition at workshops from Bruce Gandy, Matt MacIsaac, Finlay MacDonald, and Ross Ainslie.

Inaugural Royal Performance

Cameron's first-ever public Pipe Band performance was for Prince William and Kate, the Earl and Countess of Strathearn, as part of the Crieff Royal Visit Massed Pipe Band.

On the special occasion, he got to play with his mum, Mickey, who was in charge of the Drum Corps and arranging the drum scores for the event.

2015 – 2018: MacKenzie Caledonian Pipe Band

Cameron spent his formative competitive band years under Pipe Major Anne Spalding, competing with the MacKenzie Caledonia Novice Juvenile band.

In 2018, he performed with the Juvenile and Grade 2 band in a historic concert celebrating the band's centennial year. (Click the image to watch).

Formed in Dundee in 1918, the band attracted members returning from the horrors of the trenches of France and Belgium following the First World War.

Cape Breton Connection

Cameron is extremely proud to be half Scottish and half Canadian.

Having a mum from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, meant that Cameron has been fortunate to spend most summers and Christmas holidays in Canada.

Every summer, he would make the rounds of the solo piping circuit in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and perform regularly at local festivals and special events.

He is the official piper of the Boularderie MammoWarriors DragonBoat team, of which his grandmother was a founding member.

Atholl Highlanders

In 2025, Cameron was invited to be a piper in the Atholl Highlanders by the Duke of Atholl.

In the Spring of 2025, he went on tour with the regiment to the Eastern United States, performing in the New York Tartan Day Parade, the State House of Boston, and the British Ambassador's Residence in Washington.

Here he is officially welcomed into the Atholl Highlanders, being presented with his sprig of juniper by the Marquess of Tullibardine, heir apparent, Michael Murray.
